Deeply Relaxing - Deep Tissue Massage
Barefoot massage therapy is a very effective style of massage which offers a broad and expansive application of deep tissue, compression and traction for extremely therapeutic results,
and improved blood flow and circulation!
Parallel bars are mounted above the massage table for balance and support while your therapist utilizes body weight and bare feet to apply slow, deeply relaxing pressure with a meditative, rhythmic flow. This type of body work promotes and facilitates a sense of ease and deep relaxation. When the nervous system is relaxed and comfortable, the body is more willing to release and let go.
Ashiatsu massage applies pressure to areas of the body in a more general way and covers more surface area with each pass as compared to the more specific and sometimes acute techniques delivered with hands, elbows and forearms.
Barefoot massage has deep roots back to over 2,000 years ago in India where it was first developed by martial arts practitioners and used as a vital part of their training to increase flexibility and help heal injuries. It is also known in Japan as barefoot shiatsu where practitioners focus on pressure points relating to balance and circulation of chi or energy. One can also find Barefoot massage across the islands of Fiji where each island offers a variety of different massage styles. Barefoot massage along with other Thai massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client fully clothed and lying on the floor. |

In the 1990s, Ruthie Piper Hardee developed a western adaptation of Ashiatsu barefoot massage techniques by using bars above the massage table in order to utilize draping and the traditional glide with massage oil clients are accustomed to during a massage therapy session.
